After breakfast we went for a long walk along Norbill Bay
beach. We checked out the shack at the far end and at the other end of the
beach I found a nice torch that someone had left behind at an old camp site.
Old turtle eggs were scattered everywhere
We then went back to the boat for lunch and after lunch Sarah
and I fell asleep for an hour or so. Putu woke us up around 13:00 and we headed
off in the dingy around to the south west side of the Island and went for a
long walk on another nice long beach where Sarah found a few very large shells.
There was a large sea eagles nest high up on the sand dune
made from sticks stacked up about two metres high that had two large babies in
it and there were turtle nests everywhere and fresh tracks from last night. The
Island was much larger than I remembered and we were still a long way from the
beach that I wanted to go.
The weather was still very good with hardly any wind so we moved
around further closer to sail fish reef beach and Sarah found some bloody huge
shells. We came across another sea eagles nest just above the high tide mark
and this one had three large eggs in it.
By now it was getting late and so we decided to head off on
the long dingy ride back to Sirocco before it got dark.
By the time we got back we were all totally exhausted having
walked over 15,000 steps in the loose sand and up and down sand hills and we
all slept really well after special treat of chocolate brownies after dinner.
Track Sirocco’s progress
