I woke up with the sun in my eyes and it was about 08:00; so
much for our early start.
Not far away from us was the Kimberley cruise ship the Lacepeder
that snuck in during the night.
Kimberley cruise ship the Lacepeder
Putu was still asleep, but I got up and made a coffee and
immediately headed off. It didn’t take long with the engine running for Putu to
get up.
It was dead calm and we had pancakes for breakfast along the
way. I was thinking of only going as far as Krait Bay today, but we were going past
Krait Bay by 11:00, so we continued on towards the Mitchell
River. Krait Bay is where the Australian commandos trained before
leaving (in WW2) to sink all the ships in Singapore harbour.

As we rounded Cape Voltaire, Frank on the catamaran
Barbarossa called me up to say g’day as they went past. We chatted for quite
some time, he was from Perth and had gone the long way around and was heading
home for Christmas.
We got a bit of a ride with the flood current through the
Voltaire Passage, then headed south towards the Mitchell River. The wind picked
up around 14:30 and I hoisted the sails and we had a fast 7.5 knot sail all the
way up the Mitchell River until we reached middle rocks and dropped anchor near
True North around 16:00.
True North had their helicopter in the air taking the
cashed-up punters back and forwards to the Mitchell falls and they pulled
anchor and left just on dark leaving us to the peace and quiet of the midgies
flapping their wings.

I went for a troll just on dark and caught several very
large trevally and a very large cod and lost a few others. I slabbed off the
cod and we ate it for dinner.
